I am Joyce Greer, and I am an Exceptional Child Educator for Riverview Opportunity Center and Bullitt Alternative Center.
I decided to become a teacher 20 years ago, when my son was having difficulty in school. I wanted to be able to understand his difficulties, and to help him to be successful. While helping him, I thought about all the other students who might be struggling in school, and who might need help. I wanted to be able to help those children also.
Before becoming a teacher, I worked in the fields of counseling and human services. I have always worked with people.
It is an honor for me to be able to work with my wonderful students. I have learned so much from each student I have known, and I honestly remember each student I've had! When I see students walk across the stage during graduation, I know that it was not easy for many of them, so I am just so proud to see that they stayed in school, did the work, and were able to achieve and earn their diploma.
I received my Master's degree in Teaching (M.A.T.) from Spalding University. I received my Master's degree in Educational Leadership: Community/Agency Counseling (M.A.E.) from Western Kentucky University. I received my Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Brescia University.
I have two wonderful sons, and I am just so proud of what they have achieved, thus far in life. I love to continue to watch them grow and develop on their life's journey. They are super guys, interesting to be around, great personalities, and so funny, they keep me laughing!
In my spare time, I love seeing anything on stage! I love the arts, travel and visiting museums. I admit that I am a bibliophile: yes, I am a great lover of books. To me, the best skill in life that you can have, and that will help you the most, is to be able to read well. The better you become at reading, the more you will want to read, I promise you. The more you read, the more you will understand the world around you.
I encourage my students to stay in school, get as much education as they possibly can, read something every day, and strive to be all they can be in life. Also, remember to be nice to someone today! You never know when you will need that returned to you.....
I wish for you to have a very successful school year. Please let someone know if you have any questions or need any help. That's why we are here! Ms. Greer
